Astrin Few

Classically trained as a kid, Astrin Few aka Sam Hokin plays nylon-string classical guitar. His core style is acoustic guitar jazz though he enjoys singing soul, rock and even country. Astrin brought live music to Second Life in April, 2004, which is also when he started singing professionally. His repertoire of standards includes a number of tunes by Warren and Gordon, Cole Porter, Jerome Kern and others, as well as "new" standards by Bacharach, the Beatles, and others. Astrin has written a number of instrumental tunes, cowritten a number of tunes with Carla Shedivy his wife, and plays other tunes that Carla wrote.

Astrin's musical interests extend beyond performance to theory and technology. He was the first to bring live music to Second Life. He is the curator of Original Jazz Charts on the Web, with lead sheets for original jazz tunes and e-mail addresses to contact composers. Astrin is currently Partner and Senior Developer for an internet applications programming company. Before that he was plasma physicist at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm and assistant professor of physics at University of Wisconsin-Madison.
