I love writing songs. They are stories, mostly true, about me or based on stories people have told me.

My music is intimate and comes from trying to understand people and circumstances. I write from experience or from imagining the experiences of others. I hope that people feel connected by my songs.

I think I fit in many genres - folk, alt. country, pop, rock... but i like to wear the americana hat most.

I've been told I sound self-concious when I sing - like I'm afraid I'll get caught.... I try to create a feeling of intimacy. I've never been one for belting it out.... I suppose I'm a storyteller rather than a singer.

I have even been told I play guitar like a man. there weren't many girls who could play on the scene I was involved in and those that did generally preferred subtly picky playing where I'm a more of a hammer on, rhythm player.
